Why We’re Letting Go of Some Core Scents

Why We’re Letting Go of Some Core Scents

Why We’re Discontinuing Some of Our Core Scents

This is not an easy post to write, but it is an important one.

Over the next little while, you will notice that some of our long-standing, core scents will no longer be available. These are scents many of you love, and honestly, some that we love too. So we want to explain why this is happening, openly and honestly.

First and foremost, this decision was not made lightly.

As a small, Canadian-made brand, every product we carry has real costs behind it. Ingredients, packaging, labour, compliance, storage, and time all add up. Over the past few years, those costs have increased significantly, especially for fragrance oils and essential oils. Some scents now cost double what they used to, while demand for them has stayed the same or declined.

When a scent is only selling occasionally, but requires us to keep raw materials on hand, re-test formulations, maintain inventory, and pause production lines, it starts to hold the entire business back. Carrying too many low-performing SKUs limits our ability to invest in new products, improve existing formulas, and keep pricing as fair as possible for everyone.

Another hard truth is focus.

We have grown a lot since OC Beauty started, and with that growth comes the need to simplify. Having fewer scents allows us to produce more consistently, reduce waste, and spend more time doing what we do best, making high-quality products in small batches that actually perform.

This change also allows us to lean into what our community has been clearly telling us they want more of. Wellness-forward products, magnesium, functional body care, and scents that feel calming, grounding, and intentional. By letting go of some older scents, we are making room for products that better align with where we are headed as a brand.

We know some of you will be disappointed, and we truly understand that. If one of your favourite scents is being discontinued, this does not mean it was not loved or appreciated. It simply means that from a sustainability and business standpoint, we could no longer support it responsibly.

Before these scents are gone for good, we will do our best to give notice, offer last-chance restocks where possible, and clearly mark anything that is being phased out. Once ingredients are gone, they are gone, and we do not want to make promises we cannot keep.

We want to thank you for supporting a small business that chooses transparency over silence. Every decision we make is with long-term sustainability in mind, for our team, our customers, and the future of the brand.

Change is uncomfortable, but it is also necessary. We are excited about what is coming next, and we are grateful to have a community that grows with us, even when things shift.

As always, thank you for being here and for supporting handmade, Canadian-made products.

With appreciation,
Shayna
